An array of impressive automobiles lined LaSalle Road in West Hartford, with proceeds from the event supporting the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

LaSalle Road looked just a bit different Sunday morning.
More than 10,000 automobile enthusiasts converged on the street to admire a collection of more than 170 supercars, all of which were parked on LaSalle Road and its surrounding parking lots. Admission was free, but vendors selling raffle tickets, t-shirts, and refreshments raised an impressive sum of money for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The total isn’t finalized, but the estimate is that the event raised in excess of $150,000 for Connecticut Children’s
Car enthusiasts from as far as New Jersey and New York flocked to West Hartford Center to catch a rare glimpse of the many supercars on display. Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Alpha Romeos were just some of the vehicles parked on LaSalle Road.
The event had strong support from local businesses, and Union Kitchen and McLadden’s Irish Pub both pledged 10 percent of their proceeds of the day to the cause. Bricco was a supporter as well, hosting a VIP lunch in support of Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
The highlight of the event was a parade, in which several of the supercars cruised down LaSalle road. Each car had a special guest, a patient from Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, who got to experience the parade from the comfort of one of the event’s many powerful and luxurious vehicles. Once their ride was over, the kids got to meet the day’s special guest – basketball coach Jim Calhoun, who led UConn to two national championships and is now men’s basketball coach of the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford.
Summer Sivetz, event organizer, said this year’s event went “Awesome!” and credited the day’s gorgeous weather for much of its success. She also described what made this year’s fundraiser so special: the funds donated will go to the Family Support Fund, which helps fund items that aren’t covered by insurance.
All in all, the event was a resounding success, and will return next year for what is sure to be a special 20th anniversary.
