Three Shows Added to ‘Curious George and the Golden Meatball’ at Playhouse on Park

[Updated, Dec. 11, 2018] Playhouse on Park in West Hartford will present ‘Curious George and the Golden Meatball’ as the next show in its Young Audience Series, and three additional shows have now been added.

There are still tickets available for Playhouse on Park‘s Young Audience Series show, Curious George and the Golden Meatball (music by John Kavanaugh book & lyrics by Jeremy Desmon).

The show as originally scheduled to run from Dec. 8-16, 2018, and three additional shows have been added – on Dec. 18, 19, and 20, all at 4 p.m.

Based on the books by Margaret and H.A. Rey, everyone’s favorite mischievous monkey and his friend in the yellow hat sing and dance up a storm in this adventure-filled musical. On Meatball Day, Curious George helps his friend, Chef Pisghetti,cook some delicious meatballs and serve them to the hungry crowd. Something was keeping the crowd away this year, and that something was Phinneas T. Lightspeed and his speedy Meatballs-o-Matic machine. In despair, Chef Pisghetti vows to cook no more. Determined to help his friend, George goes on a mission to enter the Chef’s meatballs in the world-famous Golden Meatball Contest in Rome.

Directing Curious George and the Golden Meatball is Hillary Ekwall. Starring in this production are: Anna Razina (Playhouse on Park: Thing 2 CAT IN THE HAT, Junie B. Jones JUNIE B. Regional Theater:  Aldonza; MAN OF LA MANCHA  Josephine; HMS PINAFORE, Cinderella; CINDERELLA, Eponine;LES MISERABLES TV: BULL) as Nettie, Salvatore Mirando (Walnut Street Theatre: The Cowardly Lion u/s The Wizard of Oz; Temple: William Barfée The 25th…Spelling Bee, Nicely Nicely Johnson Guys and Dolls, Edna Turnblad Hairspray) as Chef Pisghetti/Man #3, Nick Palazzo (Off-Broadway: Mr. Pinkerton PINKALICIOUS; Playhouse on Park: Sonny IN THE HEIGHTS, Ted PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, Adam MISS NELSON IS MISSING; Goodspeed: LINCOLN IN LOVE) as Phinneas, and Colleen Penney (Edinburgh Fringe Festival: Viola TWELFTH NIGHT, Soloist/Ensemble FOOD: A 16 COURSE MUSICAL, Butterfly BUTTERFLIES & DRAGONS; TBG Arts Center: BLUE WINDOW, THE HEIDI CHRONICLES) as Woman #2.

Performances for this show are: Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sensory Friendly performances will run on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. and Dec. 14 at 9:30 a.m. These shows are produced with guidance from The Miracle League of CT and professionals from the local autism community. The Miracle League of CT is the presenting sponsor of our Season Ten Young Audience Series.

To celebrate this show, a spaghetti and meatball dinner with the cast of Curious George and the Golden Meatball will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, at The 224 Ecospace from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sponsored by Elmwood Kitchen, this special evening will include a spaghetti and meatball dinner, crafts and activities, story time, a sneak peek performance from the show, and photo opportunities with the cast. Tickets for this fundraiser to benefit Playhouse on Park are $20. Kids under 3 eat free!

In the spirit of the holiday season, those attending Curious George and the Golden Meatball should note that Playhouse onPark is a drop-off location for Toys for Tots. The Playhouse will be collecting toys through Dec. 17. Tickets to the show are $16 for children, $18 for adults, all seats reserved. All Sensory Friendly tickets are priced at $5.
