In celebration of the start of summer and the culmination of a bike drive for local youth, the law firm Day Pitney hosted a Return to the Block Party on Pratt Street in downtown Hartford on June 21. Day Pitney attorneys and staff donated approximately 110 bikes to three local organizations that support Hartford area families.

“Day Pitney has a long standing commitment to the communities in which we practice law. Now, more than ever, it is important that business leaders give back to the communities that help make them successful. We recognize that the current economic climate presents increased challenges for many Hartford families. Purchasing a bicycle for a child may be a luxury that many families can’t afford. We are happy that we’re able to alleviate some of the financial burden and bring some small piece of joy to local children,” said West Hartford resident Kathleen D. Monnes, Day Pitney’s Hartford office managing partner and organizer of the firm’s bike drive.
“Day Pitney wants to thank the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford, the Wilson-Gray YMCA and the Salvation Army for their dedication to local children and families, and for allowing us the opportunity to partner with them in distributing these bicycles to young children and teens in our community,” added Monnes.

The event featured local businesses and entertainers, such as The Magic of Christopher, a local wandering magician. Food was enjoyed from Sorella, Vaughan’s, Italian Ices of Connecticut. Hartford Flavor Company and Sunberry Café and Catering provided refreshments, bubble teas and cocktails, while local musicians Christopher John and The Jake Kulak Band entertained the guests. A commemorative illustration for the event was designed by Hartford Prints and was the basis for a community painting by Painting with a Twist. Block Party guests were invited to take pictures with Chew Chew, the mascot for the Hartford Yard Goats, and play games such as cornhole and giant Jenga.
Day Pitney hosted a Block Party and Bicycle Drive in 2019 in celebration of the firm’s 100th Anniversary. The firm hopes to make this event and charitable initiative an annual event.
