The West Hartford Fire Department responded to a fire at Aviva Senior Living early Monday morning that resulted in apparent minor injuries to one of the residents.

According to Deputy Chief Neal Sinatro, West Hartford’s public safety dispatchers received a report at 3:07 a.m. about a fire in the bathroom of a first-floor apartment at Aviva Senior Living at 1 Hamilton Heights.

Fire crews as well as West Hartford Police immediately responded, and the first crews arrived at 3:10 a.m. and found an active fire in the bathroom, which was extinguished by 3:18 a.m.

Officials said the resident of the unit had been evacuated by facility staff and relocated to an apartment across the hall prior to the arrival of firefighters. West Hartford Fire Department paramedics provided treatment to the victim at the scene, before the individual was transported to an area hospital by American Medical Response with reportedly minor injuries.

The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire officials expressed thanks to West Hartford Police and AMR for their assistance with the incident.
