West Hartford Police said thieves broke into the Goldberg’s Bagels at 1131 New Britain Ave. in Elmwood overnight and stole a cash register.

Police were called Friday morning at 5:29 a.m. when an employee arrived for work and found that the rear door had been forced open and left unsecured. The door’s hardware was destroyed and removed, police said.

The cash register appears to have been the only item taken, police said. The sum of money that was in the cash register overnight was not known.

Police are investigating and said that there are no suspects at this time. There have not been any similar incidents that have occurred recently, Lt. Eric Rocheleau said.

Goldberg’s was open for business on Friday.
