The Mandell JCC asks the community to take part in Good Deeds Day, Sunday April 2, 2017, 1-3 p.m. at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT, for an afternoon of caring with a variety of options for all ages.

Good Deeds Day is a global day that unites people from over 75 countries to do good deeds for the benefit of others and the planet. Since 2007, millions of people from thousands of communities, organizations and businesses join together every year to volunteer and do good.

You Can Be a Super Hero!, 1:30-3:30 p.m

Children will help honor  “Hometown Heroes,” local police, firefighters, and ambulance drivers by making cards and baking cookies to let those real life heroes know how much they are appreciated. While the cookies are baking, “Captain America”/Sensei Dave will provide Superhero training, with a cape and certificate included. They’ll package and deliver all the goodies, so many hands are needed. For more information, contact Jane Pasternak, 860-231-6342, [email protected].

Cooking for a Cause, 1-3 p.m., Open to Grades 6-12

Teens from throughout the community will help raise awareness to Hunger, while also learning culinary skills. Chef Lindsay Perkins will lead the teen chefs in preparing meals to be donated to local Hartford residents in need. Suggested donation of $5 per person.

For more information, please contact Colby Wyckoff, 860-231-6376, [email protected].

Pilates for a Purpose, 1-2 p.m.

The free Pilates class will raise money for the 2017 Israel Ride to help support Hazon and the Arava Institute, two organizations working towards peace, environmental sustainability, and regional cooperation. Donations welcome. Mats will be provided. No registration is needed. For more information, please contact Carmen Erian, 860-236-4571.
