State Sen. Derek Slap (D-West Hartford), Senate chair of the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, said in choosing a new president the Board of Regents should listen to campus stakeholders, who know what kind of leadership is required to ensure success.

Central Connecticut State University’s Board of Regents has work to do following the resignation of the school’s president, Zulma Toro, Monday, according to Sen. Derek Slap, D-West Hartford, the Senate chair of the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee.

Toro had held her position since 2017.

Slap said the university’s board must “stabilize leadership with an interim president and quickly implement a process for selecting a new leader that includes the voices of students, staff and faculty.”
