Kate Farrar is again the endorsed Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 20th District following this week’s unanimous support by local party delegates. The legislative district encompasses the southern portion of West Hartford and the western side of Newington.

“I’m proud to run for re-election as a Democrat who delivers for our community,” said Farrar. “I will continue working every day to bring people together and get results for the 20th District.”

“I’m running for re-election because there is more work to do,” said Farrar. “Together, we can continue building a stronger and more affordable Connecticut where every person and family can thrive.”

Now in her third term, Farrar serves as a Deputy Majority Leader, as a Chair of the historic Early Childhood Education Endowment Advisory Board, and as co-Chair of the Internship Committee. She also serves on the Finance, Revenue & Bonding, Higher Education & Employment Advancement and Transportation Committees. She’s worked to establish the landmark Early Childhood Education Endowment to bring down childcare costs and support educators, deliver tax relief for working families and seniors, protect residents from federal funding cuts to food assistance and health insurance, and advance reproductive health and LGBTQ+ rights. In 2026, she received a Children’s Champion Award for establishing and funding the Endowment and in 2025 the AFL-CIO Solidarity Award for being a driving force behind efforts to build a fairer economy and strengthen support for working-class families in Connecticut.

She was also instrumental in securing millions in investment for West Hartford, including a recent additional $3.2 million in education and municipal aid funding to stabilize property taxes and new funding to link the Trout Brook Trail to the East Coast Greenway through Hartford.

“I’m delighted to extend my congratulations to Kate Farrar on earning the Democratic Party endorsement for state representative of the 20th District. Kate’s leadership and dedication to delivering results for working families are ample reasons why residents should return her to Hartford,” said Peter Andrews, West Hartford Democratic Town Committee Chair. “From expanding access to affordable healthcare, securing additional funding for our public schools, and holding the line against harmful federal government policies, Kate understands the needs of our community. I am proud to endorse her re-election campaign.”

Farrar shared, “Throughout this campaign, I look forward to continuing to listen to residents across the 20th District and work together on new solutions for our community and our state. We need to make Connecticut more affordable by fixing Connecticut’s upside-down tax system while also staying responsive to the devastating federal cuts hurting our residents, and defending the rights, freedoms, and dignity of every person.”

Farrar grew up in Connecticut and is a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut. She is a long-time non-profit advocate for women and girls, including expanding STEM opportunities for girls and leading the passage of Connecticut’s landmark paid family medical leave program. She currently works as a Strategy Coordinator at Connecticut Foodshare. Farrar is also an active volunteer in West Hartford as a Board Member of the Aurora Foundation for Women and Girls. She lives on Ridgewood Road with her husband, Chan, and their dog, Lizzie.
