To the Editor:

Do you know who is running in the election for Town Council this November 7th?

It’s important to take a little bit of time to get to know the candidates because they will make decisions that will influence and affect your life.

Who you vote for makes a difference and who they are makes a difference. What isn’t as significant is what letter is in front of their name. Just because a candidate is affiliated with one party or another doesn’t mean they will govern well. Do you know that the D’s have a candidate for BOE who signed an anti-Semitic petition? Do you know that the R’s haven’t passed any meaningful legislation in 3 years? Do you know the current Republican minority leader voted with the D’s on the budget?

On November 7th there will be 11 candidates for Town Council on the ballot: 6 D’s, 4 R’s and 1 Independent. Only the top 9 (max 6 per party) will win a seat. Do you know anything about any of them? Before you cast your vote on November 7th for 6 of the 11 people running in this election get to know who they are.

I am Rick Bush and I am asking you to get to know me. I am a moderate conservative and I am running as an Independent for Town Council with A Connecticut Party of WH.

I believe West Hartford is and should stay a small town. I believe we should stop the huge development of the former UConn property. I believe we should strengthen our police force, stop the rampant disregard for red lights, increase housing subsidies for very low income households, focus more on ways to save money on our trash hauling, and continue to address climate related issues through our new Sustainable West Hartford commission.

I will continue to work towards accomplishing the MS4 mandate to separate storm water from our sanitary sewer system to eliminate once and for all the sewer outflows during heavy rain that contaminate our basements, streets, and rivers. I will bring a thoughtful, conservative perspective to the council and be a fiscally responsible steward of our town. I will do my homework on the issues and be ready to negotiate on behalf of the small business owner, housing providers, tenants, elderly, teachers and our children.

Get to know me West Hartford.
