To the Editor:

It is with great enthusiasm that I write to support the election of West Hartford Council Member Mary Fay as our next State Representative from the 18th Assembly District.

Mary is active in the community, and her service as a member of the Town Council gives her great insight into the needs of our residents and our businesses.

As a former long-time State Representative, I’ve seen the state overcome many fiscal crises, but the fiscal crisis we are facing in the next four years is worse than any of the ones that I’ve previously seen. In the next four years the legislature is going to have to deal with a budget that is being squeezed by the cost of underfunded pensions and healthcare plans.

Mary is uniquely qualified to deal with issues of pensions and healthcare. She has previously served as a senior vice president at GE Capital with responsibility for evaluating pensions and retirement plans. She has been an executive at AIG evaluating and structuring healthcare plans.

Real change can only come from someone with actual policy differences from our existing Democratic candidates. The aspiring 18th district Democratic candidate agrees with her Democratic predecessor on virtually every policy issue. On the other hand, Mary Fay, the Republican candidate, has the will, the energy, and the skills to understand the issues and to make changes.

Mary believes that Connecticut needs real change in Hartford to fix our broken economy. She brings with her a desire to solve the fiscal problems of the state and not just learn to live with them and to justify them. Mary Fay is clearly the best qualified candidate to serve as a State Representative from the 18th Assembly District. I urge you to support her.

Robert Farr
