This summer, the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society will offer fun summer opportunities for kids ages 8 to 12. The Colonial Kid’s Camp will take place throughout the summer.

In the Colonial Kid’s Camp, children age 8-12 spend a week exploring life in the 1700s as a colonial child.  Activities at both the historic Noah Webster House and the farm at Westmoor Park provide campers a first-hand experience with the games, fun, and chores of colonial times.

During the camp, children will become colonial “characters” and help to cook their lunches over an open-hearth. They will explore Noah Webster’s house and garden, work on crafts, and play games. At Westmoor Park, children will encounter life on a farm by caring for the barnyard animals, tending the vegetable garden, and creating food and crafts from the bountiful natural resources of the park.

Colonial Kid’s Camp takes place Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the weeks of July 18-22 and August 1-5, 2016. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday sessions will be held at the Noah Webster House, 227 South Main St., West Hartford and Tuesday and Thursday sessions will be held at Westmoor Park, 119 Flagg Rd., West Hartford.

Camp is $251 per child for museum members and $278 per child for non-members. Extended hours until 5 p.m. are available for an addition $40 per week.

To register for either program, contact the Education Department at the Noah Webster House 860-521-5362 ext.14 or visit www.NoahWebsterHouse.org.

The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is grateful to the Greater Hartford Arts Council and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for their continued support.

The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is a cultural destination where citizens can learn to understand and appreciate the past. The museum preserves the birthplace of Noah Webster, the founding father, educator, author, and lexicographer who taught generations of Americans what it means to be American. This National Historic Landmark is also a repository for the history of West Hartford, the community that molded Noah Webster’s future and is still thriving over 250 years later. The historic house and exhibit spaces are open daily 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. For information on the museum’s extensive school and public programs, please visit www.noahwebsterhouse.org or call (860) 521-5362.
