Northwest Catholic has announced the creation of an endowed scholarship to honor Northwest Catholic football coach Michael Tyler ’73, who retired from coaching at the end of the 2014 football season.

During his time at Northwest Catholic, Coach Tyler led his teams to an overall record of 105-61-1, coached 34 of the school’s 50 All-State football players, brought Northwest Catholic to a very impressive nine state playoff appearances (including one trip to the state finals), and was named Coach of the Year in 2005.

In his final season, he eclipsed the 100-win mark during a 26-7 victory at home against Tolland.

Through the generosity of initial donors, over $48,000 has been raised to create the Michael Tyler ’73 Family Scholarship, which will enable a deserving Northwest Catholic student to receive a $2,500 scholarship beginning in the 2015-16 academic year.

Additional gifts in honor of Coach Tyler are most welcome and appreciated. Donations to the scholarship can be made securely on-line via credit card at www.NorthwestCatholic.org/Tyler or by mailing a check made out to “Northwest Catholic High School” (please include a “Tyler Scholarship” memo) to the NWC Advancement Office, 29 Wampanoag Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117.

Since 1961, Northwest Catholic’s mission has been to educate the whole person: mind, body, spirit, and soul. Enrollment for the Class of ’19 is now under way. For more information, contact Andrew Selig (860-236-4221, x140 or [email protected]).
