On May 24, 2017, Peter Palermino of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) District 6 presented its Annual Sportsmanship Award to Northwest Catholic High School Girls’ Basketball Team.
Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach Sean O’Brien along with other officials from the school accepted the award on the team’s behalf. Palermino explained to the group assembled to honor and represent the Northwest Catholic girls’ basketball program that the award means a great deal to the officials.
Palermino listed the criteria required to earn this distinction and explained why NWC won this honor, focusing on the good sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the season. He commended O’Brien on his team’s spirit and said how much the officials appreciate working with O’Brien specifically.
Founded in 1923, the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) is a professional organization managed by and for basketball referees.
NW Catholic girls basketball team receive the award for sportsmanship, and the picture accompanying the award is prolific with men. Not one single woman / girl from the team. Something is dearly wrong with this picture!! Sorry you didn’t ask for an alternative / additional picture, Ms Newton.
Where are the girls? Hmmm!!
Something is wrong with this picture! Where are the girls or at least one girl in the photo of NWC Girl’s Basketball receives award?
To those who commented regarding the photo – I believe that the award was presented at a meeting that was attended by coaches and administrators, and not team members. It was content submitted to We-Ha.com, and posted as received with the photo that was also submitted. I have forwarded these concerns to Northwest Catholic. ~Ronni
