West Hartford Town Engineer Greg Sommer has announced that the season’s second round of roadway resurfacing will begin on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
The following roads are scheduled for repaving in the second round: Berkshire Road, Braeburn Road, Geneva Avenue (Reservoir Avenue to Everett Avenue), Gin Still Lane, Reservoir Avenue, and Wettleson Avenue.
According to Sommer, the process includes about five days of milling and two to three weeks to complete each roadway project.
A signed detour will be in place for Berkshire Road, with flaggers directing motorists and pedestrians around the work zone.
“Motorists are reminded to use caution while travelling on the milled surface and be alert for raised manhole structures. Please seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible,” Sommer said.
Sommer also advised that the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) will be completing restoration of Newington Road (Route 173) now that the water main has been replaced.
Due to the high volume of traffic on the roadway, the Connecticut Department of Transportation requires the work to be done overnight. Milling and paving on Newington Road is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 9. Work will be done overnight, from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m., through Wednesday, July 12, and is weather dependent.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible.
Other West Hartford roadways are undergoing full reconstruction this year, and those projects take roughly one to two months to complete. Reconstruction work began in May, and the roadways (in order) scheduled for reconstruction in 2023 include:
- Meriline Avenue
- Lynn Court
- Ardmore Road
- Avalon Road
- Vincent Street
- Brattle Street
A third round of roadway repaving will begin in September.
