Bob Cave, president of the Seniors Job Bank, was formally recognized for his “dedication, commitment and service to the West Hartford community” in a Proclamation of the West Hartford Town Council at its Jan. 10, 2017 meeting. The citation presented to Cave by Mayor Shari Cantor referred to his contributions to residents and businesses of the town regarding employment of and for workers over age 50.

Cave said, “I was surprised and pleased to have the Council recognize me and the Seniors Job Bank program. I was one of the lucky ones to have been asked to help rebuild the program and I had a lot fun while working with great volunteers.”

Cave was a key participant among a group that donated its time and business acumen to revitalizing the Seniors Job Bank. Established in 1974, it had over the years encountered reverses that eroded its effectiveness. The reboot, completed in 2013, has turned the organization into a vibrant community resource.

The mission of the Seniors Job Bank is to connect people over 50 who want to work with businesses, households and other employers with jobs to be done. Headquartered in West Hartford, the SJB serves seven central Connecticut towns. It maintains a database comprising approximately 500 service providers, all of whom have passed a background check, offering over 300 distinct vocational and professional skills. A client – company, household, or public agency – in need of assistance, upon calling SJB receives information about several service providers qualified to perform the specified tasks. The client evaluates the candidates, chooses one and negotiates compensation. There is no charge to either service provider or client for the referral.

Cave, an electrical engineer whose varied career in the energy industry took him to several regions of America and included a stint with Connecticut Natural Gas, resides in West Hartford. With the conclusion of his term as SJB’s president this month, he will assume the title of vice president and retain a seat on the Board of Directors.

Hank Boulton and Dennis Carrithers will become co-presidents of the Seniors Job Bank.

The Seniors Job Bank is a non-profit, volunteer driven enterprise. Individuals seeking work and firms and homeowners seeking workers may contact SJB by phone at 860-521-3210, email [email protected], or on the web at www.sjbct.org.
