The Mandell JCC will feature the exhibit Sondra’s Garden, March 9-April 16, 2017, with opening reception for the artist on March 9, 2017, 6-8 p.m. in the Chase Family Gallery, 335 Bloomfield Ave., Zachs Campus, West Hartford.

Artist Carrie Simon is inspired by flora, in all its forms: nature’s landscapes as well as gardens and bouquets. In her paintings she starts with remembrances from her home, gardens, parks, and travels. Often using photographs at first, eventually she works instinctively, abandoning the limitations of representation, and channeling remembrances of places, people and time into her paintings. She is influenced by the breathtaking color and marks of masters like Monet, Van Gogh, DeKooning, Mitchell and Diebenkorn.
