Two Drivers Injured Following Head-On Collision in West Hartford Wednesday Morning

West Hartford Police said the collision, which resulted in injuries to both drivers involved, occurred at the intersection of Albany Avenue with King Philip/Trout Brook Drive.

The intersection of Albany Avenue (Route 44) with King Philip Drive and Trout Brook Drive was closed for several hours Wednesday while the West Hartford Police Department’s Traffic Division investigated a head-on crash between the drivers of two vehicles.

According to a news released from Assistant Chief Larry Terra, police were called to the scene at 7:36 a.m.

Police said the driver of a Hyundai Tucson traveling east on Albany Avenue intended to turn left to head north on King Philip Drive and as the vehicle entered intersection it collided with a Mazda 3i that was traveling west on Albany Avenue.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage, police said.

According to police, the drivers of both of the cars were transported to area hospitals via ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Neither vehicle had additional occupants at the time of the crash.

Portions of the roadways were closed for several hours, but have since reopened. Police said the incident remains under active investigation and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police at 860-523-5203.
