The University of Hartford is seeking local community members who are in need of physical therapy and would like to join a new exercise program on the West Hartford campus.

Led by Professor Mary Gannotti, the free program – dubbed “Hawks in Motion” – will be held twice a week with doctoral physical therapy students and focus on individuals who have challenges with movement as a result of conditions like cerebral palsy, stroke, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, or other conditions impacting the nervous system.

The sessions will be part of a research project with the UHart students and held from Sept. 12 through Nov. 3 on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Students and community participants will work in UHart’s new state-of-the-art Hursey Center and its physiology lab, which is equipped with treadmills, weights, unweighting treadmills, and mat tables.

Space is limited, and approval by a primary care physician is required. Contact Gannotti at [email protected] or 860-768-5373 for more information or to participate.
