The Halloween spirit was on full display at University of Saint Joseph’s SPOOK-TACULAR “Truck and Treat” on Monday, Oct. 30.
Approximately, 300 young children dressed in their Halloween costumes attended the family-friendly event which began with trick or treating in the Madonna residence hall. From there the “truck-and-treaters” went outside to touch and explore West Hartford’s emergency vehicles up close and to meet West Hartford first-responders in person.
USJ student volunteers and staffers handed out more candy and giveaways, and everyone enjoyed doughnuts and warm cider. USJ’s Women’s Soccer team, dressed in their Halloween finest, took time out from their practice to show their young visitors some USJ spirit and USJ’s mascot Joey was also on hand to “High 5” to all of his new young friends.
USJ thanks all of the first-responders who made Truck and Treat a huge success. They included West Hartford’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and their Emergency Management vehicle; the West Hartford Police and a Patrol Cruiser and Undercover Detective vehicle; a Bear Cat armored vehicle from the Emergency Services Unit; a West Hartford Fire Department Ladder Truck manned by West Hartford firefighters; an American Medical Response (AMR) Ambulance with paramedics; a USJ Facilities truck with STAFFER; a USJ Public Safety Cruiser with Public Safety Officers; a USJ Gengras Bus with staff member; and a Connecticut Auto and Towing Tow Truck with a mini-truck specialty vehicle.
