The University of Saint Joseph announced for the 2022 graduation year, pharmacy graduates are above the national average and have the best pass rate in Connecticut for first-time test takers of the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) exam. USJ pharmacy graduates passed the exam above both the national and state averages.

USJ’s 2022 pass rate was 80.4%, compared to Connecticut’s pass rate of 78.2%, and the national pass rate of 79.6%.

Dean of the School of Pharmacy and PA Studies, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administration Ahmed Abdelmageed, Pharm.D. said, “The NAPLEX pass rates reflect our faculty’s continued dedication to student success. Revising, updating and fine-tuning our old curriculum is bearing fruit but more importantly our small student to faculty ratio provides our faculty time to engage students on a level that allows them to grow and realize their capacity to succeed.”

In fall 2022, USJ welcomed the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program to the USJ campus in West Hartford from their downtown Hartford location. The move has allowed for enhanced collaboration among schools and departments. The move came as USJ expanded its emphasis on Interprofessional Education (IPE) between the Nursing, Nutrition, Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science, Exercise Science, Counseling, Public Health, and Social Work programs.

USJ’s Pharm.D. program is a three-year, rather than the traditional four-year program, putting graduates into their career fields a full year earlier than other programs. The program also offers opportunities to USJ students for practicing Interprofessional Health which is the coordinated care of patients by a collaborative team of health care providers from various disciplines.

Those interested in exploring USJ’s School of Pharmacy and Physician Assistant Studies may do so at the upcoming Open House,Saturday, March 11, 2023, 9-11 a.m. to learn more about the programs, take a tour of campus, meet with current students, and ask questions about the admission process.
