The Town of West Hartford is asking residents to verify online that their vehicle registration with the town is currently active.

The Town of West Hartford has engaged Capital Tax Recovery to assist in a comprehensive review of motor vehicle registration compliance within the community. This initiative is being undertaken to ensure adherence to state registration requirements and to maintain the accuracy of the town’s motor vehicle grand list.

Capital Tax Recovery has begun efforts throughout West Hartford to identify vehicles owned or kept by residents that may be registered in another state or not properly registered with the State of Connecticut. State law requires residents to register their motor vehicles with the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles and to list the municipality where they reside. West Hartford should be listed as the tax town.

The Assessor’s Office requests that you verify your motor vehicle registration is currently active. You may do so by visiting https://dmvcivls-wselfservice.ct.gov/Registration/VerifyRegistration or by performing a Google search for “CT DMV verify registration.” Once on the DMV website, simply enter your license plate number and plate class. In most cases, the plate class will be “Passenger.”

Accurate registration information is essential for the equitable distribution of the local tax burden and for the continued funding of municipal services, including public safety, roadway maintenance, and community programs. Ensuring compliance supports the Town’s ability to plan, budget, and deliver these services effectively.

Residents identified through this process will be notified directly with instructions regarding any necessary updates or corrections to their vehicle registration. Most matters can be resolved promptly through the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles.
