West Hartford Celebrates Park Road Neighborhood at 20th Annual Parade

The weeklong neighborhood celebration of ‘Park Road Parade Days’ culminated with the iconic parade on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018.

Thousands lined the sidewalks of West Hartford on Saturday morning as the Park Road celebrated the 20th year of the neighborhood’s iconic parade.
Rather than one grand marshal this year, in honor of the 20th anniversary former grand marshals were invited back to participate. Angelo Faenza, radio talk show host Brad Davis from WDRC, meteorologist Joe Furey from WTNH Channel 8, Fox61 and reporter Rachel Lutzker all served as alumni grand marshals, and along with the West Hartford Police Honor Guard and American Legion Hayes-Velhage Post 96, led off a parade that featured an eclectic collection of floats, dogs of all shapes and sizes, dancers, musicians, clowns, costumed characters.
The dozens of contingents marching in the parade included town and state officials, school groups, businesses, and civic and cultural organizations. As is traditional, “Santa” from Mark’s Christmas Trees brought up the rear.
Playhouse on Park Co-Artistic Directors Darlene Zoller and Sean Harris emceed the event, while Public Relations Specialist Renée McCue and Rob Rowlson, the former director of Community Services, provided narration for the WHC-TV live stream.
Leading up to this year’s parade, the Park Road Association held “Park Road Parade Days,” with discounts offered at local businesses and a happy hour Thursday at Park & Oak Restaurant.

The pictures are great! Would it be possible to have some captions so i would have a sense of what I was seeing – I had the same issue at the Parade, especially with the folks in some of the classic cars. I didn’t know who I was looking at.

Hi Laurie! We are glad you liked the photos! Unfortunately we aren’t able to caption all of the photos, and don’t have the information about every contingent marching unless they happened to have a sign. There were about 100 photos published, and between Hunter and me we took nearly 1,000 images. With a large photo gallery, it’s already hours of work just to get it published and it’s just not possible for us to write captions for every single one of them. ~Ronni
You got everyone but West Hartford Dog Park Coalition!! Was looking for their photos!! 😢
They were there!! I don’t think the sign was included but definitely some of the dogs were in the photo gallery!
I just looked back through the gallery and part of the sign is included as well. It’s close to the end of the photo gallery because they Dog Park Coalition was near the end of the parade. A golden retriever wearing a dark pink bandana!
