Eight West Hartford faith communities are joining together to offer comfort and support to our entire community. In a season that often feels like everyone is festive, many people actually experience heaviness, worry, and grief. This Interfaith Longest Night Service will provide an opportunity to come together with others to hear words and music of comfort, to sit in silence and to pray.

All people are invited to join in this event on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 7-7:45 p.m.  A reception including cookies and hot cocoa will follow the service to allow time for connection and conversation.

Rev. Julie Emery, Senior Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, explains that. “We recognize that many people in our community, both those who are and are not connected to a faith community, feel anxiety, worry, grief, and sorrow. At this time of year when so much of the world is focused on festivity, these feelings can become more acute. The clergy of West Hartford faith communities are coming together to offer comfort to those who are suffering, and to let you know that you are not alone. Our hope is that this evening will help shine light into some very dark, long winter nights.”

This service will be hosted by the following faith communities:

  • Beth El Temple
  • B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom Synagogue
  • Congregation Beth Israel
  • First Baptist Church, West Hartford
  • Quaker Hartford Meeting House
  • St. James’s Episcopal Church
  • Universalist Church of West Hartford
  • Westminster Presbyterian Church

The Interfaith Service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard in West Hartford.  Westminster can easily be reached by bus, and there is ample free parking available.
