The West Hartford Field Hockey League is pleased to announce the recipients for its annual Leigh Kumpa Scholarship. The 2022 awardees are: First Place – Brooke Martindale, senior at Hall High; Second Place (tie) – Ellie Soucy, senior at Conard High and Sarah Gallagher, senior at Conard High.
This year, the scholarship committee reviewed a record number of strong submissions and felt that each awardee has proven her ability to emulate the ideals and philosophy of the league: specifically sportsmanship, being a team player, and showing respect for her coach, the opposing team and officials. In addition, applicants must also have played in the league and currently be playing field hockey at the high school level, have earned a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher, and performed volunteer work in the community.
The scholarship was created to give back to those who have supported the league. Each year, West Hartford Field Hockey awards up to $1,000 in scholarship monies to a college bound senior(s) who best exemplify the philosophy of WHFH. The WHFH Scholarship Program is an annual scholarship awards program administered by the WHFH Scholarship Committee, under the direction and guidance of the WHFH Board of Directors.
