It’s a new year and a new sports season at West Hartford’s Conard and Hall high schools. While some sports such as basketball are nearly a month into the season, others are just getting going.

“Sports Round-Up” is back, with scores and highlights of winter sports competition. However, we can’t do this without the community’s input. If you’re at a game or meet and snap a photo or two, send them our way. If you’re a budding sports writer, we’d love to have the game details! Results for some sports are hard to find, so if you were there, and you know what happened, please share. Send what you have to Ronni Newton at [email protected].

One highlight already this season is the Conard girls basketball team, which in its second year under head coach Colleen Duggan has already won more games than it did all last season. The Conard girls are 5-3, with 12 regular season games left to play. Senior guard Shelly Rodgers has also tied one three-point record and broken another. Click here to read the details.

The Conard boys basketball team has a new head coach this season, former assistant coach Jared Leghorn. “What I’m preaching to the boys right now is to focus on all the little details,” Leghorn said Saturday after a 53-34 loss to at-the-time-undefeated South Windsor. He said that the team is really coming together. “It’s a process. Our goal is to get better every day, to care about each other more,” said Leghorn. The Conard boys currently have a 2-5 record.

The gymnastics season kicked off on Saturday, with both Conard and Hall competing in the Pomperaug Invitational. Conard placed seventh, with a score of 119.45, and was led by senior co-captain Jackie Palermo who finished third place all-around with a score of 34.45. Palermo was second on bars with a 9.0 and took home a fifth place medal on vault with a score of 8.9. Hall finished in tenth place (109.85 ), but were missing top gymnast Jamie Hodge.
