West Hartford Magic Wins Seventh Grade Championship

The West Hartford Magic Girls Basketball team defeated Newington for the to win the grade 7 championship in addition to the regular season.

On Saturday, March 12, The West Hartford Magic Girls basketball team defeated Newington to claim the seventh grade championship in the Connecticut Girls Basketball League.tournament. The Magic also won the regular season championship with a 22-0 record.

With a 49-41 victory over Newington on Sunday, the Magic not only won the seventh grade girls travel basketball league, but their undefeated streak remains intact. The seventh grade Magic team has not lost a league game in the past three years. They are now 65-0 in the Connecticut Girls Basketball League.

During the championship game, Magic fell short early, trailing 22-20 by the half, only to come back strong in the final two quarters. Carys Baker had 21 points and Nicky Deslauries hit double digits, scoring 10 points for Magic. Also helping the effort for Magic were Morgan Dorsey (7 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks), Morgan Murphy (5 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks), Grace Beazoglou (4 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals), and Emma Keller (2 points).
