Award-winning jazz singer/songwriter Allegra Levy, a West Hartford native, will celebrate the release of her first album for children and families, Songs for You and Me, with a hometown show for young and old alike at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the Mandell JCC.

“I’m thrilled to be performing at the Mandell JCC,” says Allegra. My very first performance, at age 8, was on the JCC stage! I have wonderful memories of singing there in musicals like Fiddler on the Roof. I can’t wait to share Songs for You and Me in a setting I hold so dear.”

Allegra’s show will feature a 10-piece band, including bass player Tim Norton, a Conard High alum, and Allegra’s older brother, acclaimed jazz biographer Aidan Levy, on baritone sax. The program will offer jazz-infused, family-friendly music that is sure to get everyone from babies to boomers and beyond dancing and singing together. Highlights will include the unbeatably catchy “Los Animales,” a recent finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, “It’s So Hard to Be You,” a finalist in this year’s International Songwriting Competition, and “Hello Song,” a joyful, multilingual greeting among friends, conceived as a modern-day “It’s a Small World.”

Named a Top 10 Rising Star among jazz vocalists in DownBeat’s 2021 Critics’ Poll, Allegra is a 2007 graduate of Hall High School. She went on to establish a highly lauded international career and appear at most of the top clubs in New York. From 2014 to 2015, she also served as artist in residence at the world-famous Blue Bar in the Hong Kong Four Seasons Hotel.

As a new mom, however, she has now turned her focus to include children’s music with her sixth and newest album, which is already garnering rave reviews worldwide. “I know good jazz, but I also know what kids like — and this disc has plenty of both,” said The Syncopated Times of London. “… 13 tracks which are undeniably catchy, surprisingly well arranged, and ten thousand times better than ‘Baby Shark’ could ever dream of being.”

The show is at 11 a.m., Sunday, June 4 at the Mandell JCC, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. ADMISSION: Children 1 – 12: $8. Adults: $12. TO PURCHASE TICKETS: Visit Tix.com HERE. FOR INFORMATION: Call the JCC at 860-236-4571.
