Norma Heslin Sweeney, 93, died on Sept. 15, 2022.

Norma Heslin Sweeney, “Nonie,” 93, of West Hartford and Black Point Beach, Niantic, beloved wife of the late Joseph Sweeney for 52 years, peacefully passed away September 15, 2022.

Born August 18, 1929, to Stephen and Violet Heslin and raised in New Britain. Norma was a graduate of New Britain High School and Becker College, Worcester, MA.

She was employed by WTIC and CT Light & Power. While home raising her children, Joe and Norma founded Sweeney Electrical Contractors, a business they ran for over 50 years. Later, she was an Independent Real Estate Broker, started Sweeney Real Estate, and later a broker with Century 21.

Norma was a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, a member of the Black Point Woman’s Club, and member of the Irish American Home Society.

“Nonie” is survived by her loving children: Stephen Sweeney, Shevon and Thomas Hickey, Sharon and Charles Bruce, and her dear grandchildren, Shauna (Bryan Jury), Nicolette (Branden Bradley) and Austin Sweeney, Garrett (Heather) Hickey, Liam, Fintan, and Griffin Bruce, great-grandchildren, Lillian Bradley, and Seaghan Hickey. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Sweeney Coughlin, cousin Sheila Anderson, and nearly 100 wonderful nieces, nephews, and their spouses. She was sadly predeceased by her grandson, Thomas Hickey III, and her “Sweeney Clan Siblings and their spouses” and her cousin, Anne Rudge Pinkham.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00am at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. All attending must wear a face mask. Mass will be streamed LIVE and RECORDED so all near and far can be with us!

Interment will be private for immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, keep the Post Office in business as she did and mail someone a card or note.
