West Hartford Police are calling the double stabbing that appears to have taken place at the 1001 Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge at 134 Park Rd. in West Hartford a domestic violence incidednt and have now identified the injured parties as husband and wife.

According to West Hartford Police Capt. Donald Melanson, George Ayoub, 47, who is the owner of 1001 Arabian Nights, called 911 at 3:17 a.m. Wednesday and informed dispatchers that he had been stabbed by his wife.

As police were on their way to 134 Park Rd., where Ayoub was located, his wife Najeh Frehi, 24, was discovered outside of 96 Park Rd. “suffering from serious stab wounds to her shoulders and lacerations to her hands,” police said in a news release. Several officers began medical treatment for Frehi while others went to 134 Park Rd.

According to police, Ayoub was still on the phone with dispatchers when they arrived. The business was closed and the door was locked, but officers said they “observed Ayoub through the front glass windows in obvious distress.” Ayoub was not able to reach the door to unlock it due to his injuries, police said, so they gained entry by breaking out the glass in the front door.

Police said a large sword, believed to have been used in the stabbing, was found at the scene. “We’re trying to determine where it came from,” Melanson said.

According to police, Ayoub is still in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital with  life-threatening injuries to his abdomen.

Frehi was also admitted to St. Francis Hospital with serious injuries to her shoulder and hands, police said.

West Hartford Police are working to piece together information about what may have happened inside the 1001 Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge that resulted in two people sustaining stab wounds, one of them with life-threatening injuries.

West Hartford Police Capt. Donald Melanson said that police received a medical call at 3:17 a.m. Wednesday regarding an injury at 134 Park Rd. The call was made by a male, Melanson said, but he was unable to release any other details.

“While en route, officers came upon a female who had been stabbed and was bleeding on Park Road,” Melanson said, and several officers began treating her for the injuries.

Police immediately went to 134 Park Rd., where the door was locked but a man inside was visible through the window. “He was inside but unable to get to the door. They did see blood,” Melanson said.

Police were able to forcibly enter the premises to get to the man, who they said also appeared to have been stabbed.

Both the male and female were transported to St. Francis Hospital. The man underwent surgery and is currently listed in critical condition, Melanson said. His injuries are believed to be life-threatening, said Melanson.

“Something happened between the male and and the female, but we are not sure what the relationship between them is,” Melanson said. Names of the victims have not been released, but Melanson said that the male is in his 40s and the female is in her 20s.

Melanson said that police do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident.

Police were able to obtain a search warrant for the building at 134 Park Rd. shortly after 10 a.m. and will begin collecting additional evidence.

Several blocks of Park Road were closed early Wednesday morning, and although crime scene tape remains in place, everything has been reopened other than the 1001 Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge and Shehrazad’s Cafe & Grill which share the 134 Park Rd. space and have the same owners.
