West Hartford Police: Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Albany Avenue

West Hartford Police said a pedestrian struck by a vehicle Saturday evening on Albany Avenue had died.

A pedestrian was struck by a car Saturday evening on Albany Avenue near Mohegan Drive in West Hartford, and the injuries sustained were fatal, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 5:48 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6. Police and West Hartford Fire Department personnel responded and provided medical aid at the scene to a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
The individual, identified by Capt. Daniel Moffo only as an “adult,” was transported to an area hospital but the injuries sustained were fatal, he said.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained on the scene, police said.
The West Hartford Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team was actively investigating the incident, and as of 9:19 p.m. Albany Avenue remained closed in both directions between King Philip Drive/Trout Brook Drive and Seneca Road, and closed eastbound between North Steele Road and King Philip Drive/Trout Brook Drive. Police said detours are in place and motorists should seek alternate routes.
Snow began falling by about 8 p.m., but it was not yet snowing when the incident occurred.
There were no fatal motor vehicle-related incidents in West Hartford in 2023, but the prior year there were six fatalities. In a period of eight days in December 2022 five people died in town and another was seriously injured as a result of motor vehicle-related incidents – and as a result of those tragedies the town formed a task force and launched a Vision Zero initiative resulting in an action plan that is being finalized and set to be implemented in the next few weeks.
