Original story

West Hartford Police are searching for a suspect involved in the carjacking of a 71-year-old woman at an auto shop Sunday morning.

According to Sgt. Amanda Martin, the victim was dropping off her car for repair at a West Hartford auto shop at 54 Cody Street, which is off South Street, and was waiting inside the vehicle at 11:24 a.m. when she was approached by a man with a handgun.

The suspect removed the woman from her vehicle, police said, and then fled in that vehicle.

According to police, the victim was not injured in the incident.

Police have provided a description of the suspect as a Black male between 6 feet and 6-feet-2-inches tall, thin, and last seen wearing a puffy black jacket, blue jeans, and white sneakers. His face was covered with a black mask, police said.

Police are also searching for the stolen vehicle, a 2013 four-door dark gray Honda Accord LX sedan, with Connecticut registration AE-79232.

The Greater Hartford Auto Theft Task Force and Connecticut State Police are assisting West Hartford Police with the investigation, Martin said.

West Hartford Police are asking the public to contact them immediately if they spot either the vehicle or a suspect matching the description either by calling 860-523-5203 or via the anonymous Tip Line which can be accessed by email at [email protected] or by phone at 860-570-8969.
