Three members of West Hartford’s Boy Scout Troop 163 have been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout this year.

Boy Scout Troop 163 members Ian Kimberly, Lucas Pauluk, and Helkin Sosa were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout this spring, the highest rank in Boy Scouts and one that is reached by only 4 percent of boys in scouting.

Part of the rank is achieved by completing a service project that includes fundraising and leading fellow scouts in completing the project. Kimberly fully renovated an old classroom into a community resource room at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Pauluk constructed a walk-in library free to students at Duffy Elementary School, and Sosa planned and executed a musical instrument donation drive to benefit Gifts of Music and New Britain Public Schools.

All three Eagle Scouts graduated last week from Conard High School and have been in scouting together since their days as Cub Scouts at Webster Hill Elementary School. In the fall Kimberly will attend Northern Vermont University (Lyndon), Pauluk will attend the Honors Program at Central Connecticut State University, and Helkin Sosa will attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
