Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the Park Road/Trout Brook Drive road construction project will result in new detours, beginning April 29.

By Ronni Newton

Work resumed in early April on West Hartford’s Park Road/Trout Brook Drive intersection, and now that the first phase of this spring’s work is complete, the location of the construction will move resulting in a new detour pattern.

The new Interstate-84 Exit 43 ramp to Park Road opened in December and overall project construction was on hiatus for the winter before resuming in April. West Hartford Project Engineer Greg Sommer said that the upcoming phases of construction, which will last several more months, will be very disruptive to motorists.

Weather permitting, the next phase of the project will begin on April 29.

According to the town’s engineering department, the impact to traffic flow during Phase 2 will be significant, with Trout Brook Drive closed completely to Southbound Traffic at Boulevard.

Traffic heading westbound on Park Road will need to turn right at Trout Brook Drive.

Detours will be in place only while crews are actively working in the area, which is scheduled to take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., in order to minimize the impact on the morning and evening commute. The roadway will be reopened at the end of the day.

Phase 2 (see detour plan below) is scheduled to last for one to two days.

Phase 3 will also require Trout Brook Drive to be closed to all southbound traffic at Boulevard, but Park Road will be open for the flow of traffic in both directions.

Work during Phase 3 (see detour plan below) is also scheduled to take please between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and should last one to two weeks.
