The resolution, which was adopted unanimously by the Town Council on April 9. 2024, designates West Hartford as a “pollinator-friendly community.” It recognizes the vital role of bees and other pollinators in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and aims to address the decline in pollinator populations due to various factors such as habitat loss, pesticide use, and land development.

Wenograd will speak to the significance of this resolution at the Earth Day Family Festival, emphasizing the town’s commitment to fostering a safe, healthy, sustainable environment for both pollinators and residents alike.

“We are thrilled to have Deputy Mayor Ben Wenograd join us at the Earth Day Family Festival to discuss West Hartford’s commitment to sustainable land care, sustainable waste management, clean energy, and more broadly the importance of making sustainable choices,” said Bernie Pelletier, chair of the Sustainable West Hartford Commission. “Town leadership is so important to our efforts and we are grateful for their support.”

The Earth Day Family Festival will take place on April 20, from noon to 4 p.m., at Blue Back Square, featuring free face painting, educational booths, and sustainable vendors, and products. The schedule is posted below.
