Phase 4 of the construction project on Park Road has progressed faster than expected, and the next phase is expected to begin on Monday, July 15, with motorists facing additional detours.

The Town of West Hartford announced Thursday that due to the “great progress” being made by the contractor, and as long as the weather cooperates, Phase 5 should begin July 15.

“This phase is more disruptive and will extend the existing work zone through the Trout Brook Drive intersection,” an announcement from the town states.

The additional detours, as shown on the plan above, will significantly impact the flow of traffic on Trout Brook Drive as well as westbound Park Road.

Other than for local traffic, Park Road will be closed to all westbound traffic, 24 hours a day, between South Quaker Lane and the I-84 ramps. Westbound traffic will be detoured north on South Quaker Lane and west on Boulevard to avoid the project area.

Trout Brook Drive will be closed in both directions, 24 hours a day, between Park Road and Boulevard, other than for local traffic.

The only option for traffic on Trout Brook Drive headed north toward Park Road will be to turn right (east) on Park Road.

Traffic headed east on Park Road will not be able to turn right onto Trout Brook Drive.

Access to residential properties and businesses will be maintained at all times, the town’s notice states.

Phase 5 is expected to last two to three weeks.

The town urges motorists to expect delays, and to use caution when traveling throughout the project area.

Alternate routes to avoid the project area are suggested, and include entering and exiting I-84 at Exit 41 (South Main Street), Exit 42 (Trout Brook Drive), and Exit 44 (Prospect Avenue/Kane Street).

The approximately $6.8 million project is being administered by the Town of West Hartford, with construction inspection services provided by Weston and Sampson Engineers, Inc. and oversight by the Office of Construction, District 1, Rocky Hill. The project started on Sept. 19, 2017, and Paramount Construction is the primary contractor. Federal funds are providing 80 percent of the costs, and the state and town are each providing 10 percent.
