The University of Saint Joseph will host an evening of poetry and lecture by Adam Plunkett, author of the new Robert Frost biography Love and Need: The Life of Robert Frost’s Poetry, on Monday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., in Mercy Hall’s Crystal Room. This event is free and open to the public.
“Adam Plunkett is a first-rate biographer, whose years of tireless research on Frost’s life and work illuminates the hidden depths of the enigmatic poet behind such classic works as ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,’ ‘The Road Not Taken,’ and ‘Mending Wall,’ said USJ Visiting Assistant Professor of English Aidan Levy. “More than 150 years after his birth and 60 years after his death, Frost’s poetry still resonates with some of our most pressing environmental and ethical concerns as a society. The opportunity to bring this distinguished literary critic and biographer to USJ will expose students, faculty, and the greater Hartford community to one of America’s – and New England’s – best-loved poets, pushing us to approach the world more critically, artfully, and compassionately.”
Plunkett, a literary critic, has received fellowship support from organizations such as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Leon Levy Center for Biography. Love and Need is his first book.
This program is supported in part by the Peter Brazeau Poetry Fund and the Maximilian E. and Marion O. Hoffman Foundation Fund for the Humanities at the University of Saint Joseph and organized by the Department of Cultures, Arts, and Literatures at USJ.
The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session, book signing, and refreshments. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
