BTC’s “The Nutcracker,” choreographed by Artistic Director, Stephanie Dattellas, will take place Nov. 26 and 27, 2022, with a total of four public performances, including one sensory-friendly performance, “A Sensory-Friendly Ballet.” The Sensory-Friendly Ballet ticket purchases will be open to the public for people of all ages. Local children’s advocacy agencies will also be offered tickets to this special sensory-friendly theater experience.
BTC is thrilled to return to the Bushnell’s Maxwell M. & Ruth R. Belding Theater with a refreshed version of Dattellas’ beloved holiday classic, featuring brand-new choreography and costuming for much of Act II. In an effort to address the lingering cultural appropriation in the 130-year-old ballet, Dattellas has reimagined a new, vibrant, and cheeky Act II featuring magical treat-foods that would wow a 19th-century young lady in a dreamscape and will delight modern audiences.
In addition to the excitement of mounting this updated and inspired version of Dattellas’ production, students involved in BTC’s “The Nutcracker” will also be offered the unique opportunity to work alongside BTC’s company of professional dancers throughout the rehearsal process, further elevating this experience for young dancers of all ages!
