Bald eagles have reportedly been seen along Trout Brook Trail, and on Wednesday morning a resident was able to get a photo of two of them in a tree.

“I saw this pair of bald eagles this morning – just after sunrise – on the Trout Brook Trail, near the Fern Street intersection,” Holly Parker said in an email on Wednesday. “What a precious amenity this trail is for our community!”

According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), this is nesting-building season for bald eagles.

“In Connecticut, eggs are usually laid between the last week of February and first two weeks of March. Incubation continues until the eggs hatch,” the DEEP website states.

Nesting bald eagles are protected by state and federal law, and should not be disturbed.

DEEP asks that anyone who spots an eagle displaying nesting behavior, like carrying sticks, contact Wildlife Biologist Brian Hess at [email protected] or call 860-424-3208.
