A teenage boy riding his bicycle sustained serious injuries Tuesday morning in West Hartford when he was struck by a Nissan Altima.
According to police, the incident occurred at 7:51 a.m. at the intersection of Hall Street and Federal Street in the Elmwood section of West Hartford.
The boy, who is 15 years old, was transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital with what Capt. Jeff Rose said is a serious injury. A subsequently-released police report noted that the nature of the injury was “head trauma.”
The teen was not wearing a helmet, police said.
Police did not release the name of the boy, but according to multiple sources he is a student at Conard High School. West Hartford Public Schools were closed Tuesday for Election Day.
The name of the driver of the Nissan Altima has not been released. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating, police said. The driver was not injured, and has not been charged at this time.
Rose said that the teen was riding his bicycle northbound on Federal Street, and the driver of the Altima was headed east on Hall Street.
West Hartford Police said that there was a witness, and the incident remains under investigation. The intersection was closed for several hours while the accident reconstruction team conducted its investigation.
