After a challenging opening-season loss to powerhouse Glastonbury, the Conard field hockey team has turned the tide, showcasing their resilience and skill on the field. Currently standing at an impressive 4-1, the team has outscored their opponents 21-6, highlighting a potent offense and a tenacious defense.

The key to Conard’s success lies in their perfect blend of experienced leadership and emerging talent. With an upcoming matchup against Newington on Thursday, followed by a tough game against Cheshire on Saturday morning, the team is focused on improving their record to 6-1.

Conard has had nine different goal scorers this season, with freshman forward Gigi Smith leading the charge as the team’s goal leader with six tallies to her credit. Smith’s offensive prowess has been powered by a strong midfield unit that excels at distributing the ball to open teammates, allowing for fluid and dynamic play.

Kathryn Ribarov, Freja Morris, Fiona Campbell, and Alexis Nguyen form a formidable force down the center of the field, driving Conard’s offensive strategies and creating scoring opportunities.

Defensively, Spencer Doyle has been a rock in goal, stepping up when it matters most and making critical saves that keep Conard in control of the game. The defensive unit, consisting of Kate Lafferty, Alexis Nguyen, Claire Flynn, and Fiona Campbell, has delivered solid performances that have been instrumental in the team’s recent successes.

As Conard prepares for their next two challenges, they hope to carry the momentum they’ve created into their upcoming matches. With a well-rounded roster and growing chemistry, the Conard field hockey team looks poised to make waves for the remainder of the season.
