Conard Girls Swimming and Diving Dominates in Second Win of Season

Conard hosted Bristol in West Hartford Tuesday, securing the second win of the season.

Conard Girls swimming and diving moved to 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon after a dominant performance against Bristol. The Red Wolves were able to secure first place finishes in every event, including sweeping nine of the 12 events
The meet kicked off with Jane Harhay, Ella Hall, Meghan Jo, and Lucy Pincince winning the 200 Medley relay, while CeCe Peck, Claire Haverly, Rachel Mathews, and Morgan Robinson locked up second place to give the Red Wolves their first sweep of the day.
Conard then went on to sweep the 200 Freestyle behind the efforts of Lyla Harhay, Rosie Alonzo, and Kayla Lowney. J. Harhay went on to win the 200 Individual Medley, and the combination of Haverly, Pincince, and Peck swept the 50 Freestyle..
Gabrielle Alekshun posted a personal best score of 208.45 to win diving, and teammate Mia Rosario snagged second place, giving Conard a 61-16 lead at the midway point of the meet.
Mathews held off a tough challenge from Bristol, but managed to close out the race in the final 25 yards to take first int he 100 Butterfly. Conard went on to sweep the next three individual events with Jo, Haverly, and L. Harhay in the 100 Freestyle; Pincince, Celia Filotto, and K. Lowney in the 500 Freestyle; and Alonzo, Peck, and Mathews in the 100 Backstroke. Hall and Denitsa Peneva combined for a 1-2 finish in the 100 Breaststroke to close out the individual events.
Conard’s 200 Freestyle Relays (Gracie Lowney, J. Harhay, L. Harhay, Jo and Haverly, K.Lowney, Filotto, and Pincince) and 400 Freestyle Relays (J. Harhay, Jo, G. Lowney, Alonzo, and L. Harhay, Filotto, Mathews, Hall) swept their events, closing out the afternoon with a decisive win.
In addition to the win, the following athletes qualified for the Class L State Tournament:
- Gracie Lowney: 50 Freestyle
- Meghan Jo: 100 Freestyle
Conard’s next meet is Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Rocky Hill High School.
