Conard Girls Swimming and Diving Now 3-0

The girls swimming and diving team from West Hartford’s Conard High School notched another win in their first away meet of the season.

Conard girls swimming and diving moved to 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon after another strong performance against Rocky Hill. The Red Wolves took first place in 11 of the 12 events and were able to sweep six of the races

The meet kicked off with CeCe Peck, Claire Haverly, Rosie Alonzo, and Rachel Mathews winning the 200 Medley relay. Conard then went on to sweep the first three individual events, with Gracie Lowney, Meghan Jo, and Lucy Pincince taking the top spots in the 200 Freestyle; Lyla Harhay, Deni Peneva, and Maddie Mancini the 200 Individual Medley; and Haverly, Peck, and Mathews in the 50 Freestyle.

On the board, Gabby Alekshun and Mia Rosario faced a tough challenge from Rocky Hill’s strong diving team, but Alekshun’s outstanding effort and skill earned her the first place finish and a new personal best score of 217.80, while Rosario snagged the third place spot with a score of 183.30.

The Red Wolves went on to win the next two events behind Alonzo in the 100 Butterfly, G. Lowney in the 100 Freestyle, and swept the 500 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke with the efforts of Jo, Mathews, and Kayla Lowney, and Pincince, Peck, and Celia Filoto, respectively.

Conard’s 200 Freestyle Relay (G. Lowney, Alonzo, Jo, K. Lowney) took the top spot, and the 400 Freestyle relays (Jo, Mancini, Pincince, Alonzo; and Mathews, Peck, Haverly, Harhay) closed out the meet with a sweep in that event.

In addition to the win, the following athletes qualified for the Class L State Tournament: Gracie Lowney – 200 Freestyle.

Conard’s next meet is Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Berlin High School.
