Conard Girls Swimming and Diving Starts Season with a Win

Conard hosted South Windsor at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford for the first meet of the season.

Conard Girls Swimming and Diving opened their season with a decisive win over South Windsor on Tuesday, Sept. 12. The Red Wolves were able to secure first place finishes in 11 of 12 events, including sweeping first, second, and third place in four events.
The meet kicked off with Gracie Lowney, Ella Hall, Rachel Mathews, and Lyla Harhay winning the 200 Medley relay. Conard went on to sweep the next three events, with Meghan Jo, Lucy Pincince, and Kayla Lowney in the 200 Freestyle, Mathews, Rosie Alonzo, and Hall in the 200 Individual Medley, and Jane Harhay, Claire Haverly, and CeCe Peck in the 50 Freestyle.
Returning diver Gabrielle Alekshun faced tough competition from South Windsor’s sole diver Maya Hathorn, however she was able to hold off Hathorn and secured first place with a score of 202.80 to Hawthorn’s 200.20.
Jane Harhay went on to win the 100 Freestyle, while Jo, L. Harhay, and Pincince combined to sweep the 500 Freestyle. The rest of the individual events were wrapped up by G. Lowney in the 100 Backstroke, and Hall the 100 Breaststroke.
Conard’s 200 Freestyle Relay (J. Harhay, Haverly, Pincince, Jo) and 400 Freestyle Relay (Jo, J. Harhay, G. Lowney, and L. Harhay) teams clinched the top spots in those events, helping secure the Red Wolves’ 93.5-81.5 win.
In addition to the win, the following athletes qualified for the Class L State Tournament:
Meghan Jo: 200 and 500 Freestyle
Jane Harhay: 50 and 100 Freestyle
Gabrielle Alekshun: Diving
Mia Rosario: Diving
Gracie Lowney: 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke
Lyla Harhay: 500 Freestyle
Ella Hall: 100 Breaststroke
Conard will be back at Cornerstone on Sept. 19, hosting Bristol Central/Eastern.
