Jamahl Hines, Principal of Conard High School, announced the five students who have been named Commended Students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. These recipients are: Anastasia Andrews, Noah Koffman-Adsit, Macy McPhee, Thatcher Slocum and Elizabeth Zehr.
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scores of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Thatcher Slocum and Elizabeth Zehr have also been named National Merit Semifinalists. These students will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring, and will be candidates for other scholarships, as well.
Representing less than 1% of the country’s high school seniors, Semifinalists are the state’s highest-scoring students on the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
