Conard Red Wolves Name Mascot, Celebrate Unified Sports at Spirited Pep Rally

Conard’s school spirit was off the charts Friday afternoon as the entire community gathered in the gym to celebrate recent successes – including fall sports teams, the cast and crew of the fall theater production, and the selection of Conard science teacher Nora McHugh as West Hartford’s Teacher of the Year.

Also celebrated was the Unified Sports Team – one of just 33 nationwide named to the ESPN Honor Roll as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School.
The crowd cheered as cheerleaders flew through the air – and reached a crescendo as confetti exploded and showed the middle of the gym.

The excitement continued through a rousing game of “Hungry Hippo” – with teams of students and staff.
The pep rally hadn’t reached its peak – with the cornerstone activity left for the end: selection of the name for Conard’s Red Wolf mascot.
“Voting closed at 12:30 p.m. today,” Principal Jocelyn Tamborello-Noble said, and the two top choices were “Crimson Claw” and “Big Red.”

Pep rally emcee (and math teacher) Doug Sekorski led the final vote – asking the students to cheer for their top choice. The results were clear, and applause rang out as “Big Red” was officially named.
