A relay team from Conard High School will be heading to the New England Interscholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston on March 3, following a second-place finish on Saturday at the State Open at Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Anchored by Yale-bound senior Libby McMahon, the 4×200 meter relay team that also included Molly Binder, Rachel Massey, and Kate Shaffer ran 1:46.46, setting a new school record.

“I’m very proud of all of them and how hard they’ve worked this season,” head indoor track and field coach James Redman said.

The relay team has been been getting faster and faster as the season has progressed, initially breaking the old school record of 1:50.33 at the Yale Invitational last month in a time of 1:48.74. They ran 1:47.78 at the Class L Championship last weekend, and shattered that record by more than a second this week.

At Saturday’s State Open, the Windsor girls finished first in the 4×200, in 1:45.54, and Brien McMahon (Norwalk) closely followed Conard, taking third in 1:46.90.
