Conard Swimming and Diving Continues Winning Streak

The Conard girls swimming and diving team hosted Newington on Wednesday at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford.

Conard girls swim and dive continued its run through the CCC West teams with a 91-81 win on Wednesday over neighboring Newington High School. Conard improved to 6-0 on the season, 3-0 in CCC West meets.

Conard got off to a quick start by going 1-2 in the medley relay as Lucy Pincince, Lyla Harhay, Rachel Mathews, and Gracie Lowney finished first ,while Kayla Lowney, Claire Haverly, Echo Jo, and Maddie Mancini touched second.

In the 200 free, Harhay, Celia Filotto, and Edie Kitzman finished 1-2-3 – opening the Conard lead to 20 points.  Rosie Alonzo, Cece Peck, and Ellie Harhay pulled off the Red Wolves second 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM. Pincince, Mathews ,and K. Lowney went 1-2-4 in the 50 free.

The diving saw four of the top divers in the area square off. Newington’s Myranda Parker and Shannah Gray finished 1-2, ahead of Conard’s Gabby Aleksun (personal best 6-dive score of 243.75) and Mia Rosario.

Following diving, G. Lowney, L. Harhay ,and Haverly continued Conard’s run of 1-2-3 finishes, extending the lead to 69-24.  Ella Hall won the 100 freestyle before Pincince, Filotto, and E ,Harhay pulled off Conard,s fourth sweep of the day in the 500 freestyle, putting the meet out of reach as the lead opened to 91-34. Filotto had a personal best and qualified for the state tournament in the event.

In the last four events, Conard’s 200 free relays went 1-2 behind Hall, Haverly, Mathews, and Filotto, followed by L. Harhay, Peck, Pincince, and E. Harhay. Alonzo, Mancini, and Lilah Krajc swept the backstroke before Jo, G. Lowney, and K. Lowney swept the breaststroke.

In the final event, Hall, Filotto, G. Lowney, and Jo took first place honors.
