[Updated] Fatal Crash Closes Avon Mountain for Hours

[Updated, May 5, 2016, 2:35 p.m.] West Hartford Police have identified the victim of Wednesday’s crash on Avon Mountain as Kelly Gregory of Simsbury.

On Thursday afternoon, West Hartford Police identified the victim of Wednesday afternoon’s crash on Albany Avenue as Kelly Gregory, 32, of Simsbury.
Police said that no further details are available.
[Update, May 4, 2016, 9:40 p.m.]
A woman was fatally injured in a two-car crash on the West Hartford side of Avon Mountain Wednesday afternoon.
A 33-year-old woman was the victim of a two-car crash on Avon Mountain that occurred at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday. West Hartford Police Lt. Jeremy Clark said the woman died at the scene.
Clark said that witnesses reported seeing the woman driving “aggressively” just before the crash. She was driving a Subaru sedan and headed eastbound on Route 44. One witness reportedly saw her give a motorist “the finger,” he said.
Police said that the woman crossed the double yellow line and struck an SUV that was headed westbound. The male driver of the SUV, a Dodge Durango, was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were “minor and not considered to be life-threatening,” police said.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Route 44 on Avon Mountain reopened at approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesdsay after being closed for more than six hours while police investigated the crash. The investigation is still ongoing, and police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

A crash on Avon Mountain involving two vehicles has resulted in a fatality, West Hartford Police said early Wednesday evening. Route 44 is closed in both directions.
According to police, the accident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on the West Hartford side of the mountain. An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene and it is not known when the road will reopen.
Motorists are being detoured on either Route 185 through Bloomfield and Simsbury or Route 4 through Farmington to Route 10.
