The Foundation for West Hartford Public schools is recognizing the many years of service and dedication by Superintendent Tom Moore, and in recognition of his departure from the district this summer has established the “Tom Moore Superintendent Grant.”

To fund the grant the Foundation has launched the “$26K for 26 years!” campaign – a nod to the 26 years Moore has dedicated to West Hartford Public Schools, where he began his career student teaching at Hall and then was hired as a social studies teacher at Conard in 1996, and went on to become a department supervisor, Conard principal, assistant superintendent for administration, and has served as superintendent since 2014. He’s also the parent of two Conard High School graduates and a former coach in the district.

The Foundation said that it is grateful for the signifiant impact Moore has made on so many people, and the Tom Moore Superintendent Grant, in combination with other annual fundraising efforts, will continue to support the district in the spirit of Moore’s vision and the district’s mission – “Clear Paths, Bright Futures, No Limits.”

“Tom has always been supportive of the Foundation and the work we do for our schools and we couldn’t appreciate him more,” Lauren Fine, co-chair of the Foundation, said in a statement. “Our goals have always been aligned – how can we make our schools better? This new grant will carry on his legacy and we are proud to be able to honor him in this small way. He will be sorely missed, but we wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on this exciting new adventure.”

According to the Foundation, 29 grants representing more than $57,000 supplemental funds have been awarded durning the 2021-2022 school year. The grants have supported projects and residencies.

The Foundation is thankful for the healthy leadership and community support over the past 24 years, which have allowed the awarding of more than $1.95 million in grants to teachers and schools, from Pre-K through grade 12, as well as post-secondary programs. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.
