Kate Farrar today declared her candidacy for re-election as state Representative in the 20th District, which encompasses the southern portion of West Hartford and will soon include the western portion of Newington. Farrar will run as a Democrat in the upcoming 2022 election.

“In this time of uncertainty and immense challenges, I am running for re-election to continue to be a champion for our community,” said Farrar. “I’m committed to work together to build a fair recovery out of this crisis for all of us to thrive.”

In her first year of her first term, Farrar worked to increase health care for the most vulnerable, expand the Earned Income Tax Credit for a fairer tax system, and advance equity by diversifying our state boards and commissions. She was also instrumental with her legislative colleagues to secure a $2.5 million grant for the town’s purchase of the former St. Brigid School as a site for a new Elmwood Community Center.

“The most important thing I can do as an elected official is to listen and collaborate for new solutions. I learn so much from my constituents and I want to continue to work together to address what matters most to you.”

Farrar grew up in Connecticut and is a proud graduate of the University of Connecticut – Storrs.  She is a long-time non-profit advocate for women and girls, including expanding STEM opportunities for girls and leading the passage of Connecticut’s landmark paid family medical leave program. She currently works as a Program Specialist at Connecticut Foodshare. Farrar is also an active volunteer in West Hartford as a Board Member of the Aurora Foundation for Women and Girls. She lives in the 20th District on Ridgewood Road with her husband, Chan, and their dog, Lizzie.
